ABSTRACT

The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is formed by twelve South American countries and was oficially founded in May of 2008 in Brasília. From the its creation, the subcontinent countries would articulate themselves around important areas of the region, such as: infrastructure, health and defense. The South-American Defense Council (CDS) would be created in December of 2008 and would be the instance in charge to build a South-American identity of defense in the region. With that said, The South-American Defense Council is setted like a organ bounded to the UNASUR, which promotes the dialogue in material defense betwenn twelve country members, serving as a forum of Consult, Cooperation Coordination, which is a decision making with the consense betwen the State Members. The study presented pretends to analyze the reasons why the South-American Defense Council was created, parting from the assuption that this organism is the first that effectively cares about security and defense In South America, leading to an institutional framework.
