ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to analyze the role of of physical education to prevent obesity in school. The specific objectives are based on support and development of research, which sought to identify how the physical education teacher works the prevention of overweight and obesity. Analyze what is the understanding that students have about overweight and obesity and verify that the students experienced some form of prejudice related to overweight and obesity. The survey was conducted in municipal school with students from 6th grade of elementary school in the Sinop-MT city. Overall, the survey covered a number of 55 students, 26 males and 29 females, 11 to 12 years of age and physical education`s teacher at each school. This research approach is qualitative and quantitative research is a field, allowing a better interpretation of data, the instruments used for data collection were questionnaires for students and physical education`s teachers. In the end, it was concluded that teachers are concerned about the inclusion of these students in physical education classes. It was also found that students are aware of what is obesity. However, it was found deficient in respect to the direction of healthy eating habits, believing that it is necessary to work over this issue with students and community due to its importance for a good quality of life. From the reflections that arose during the study, one can see that physical education has a primary role in building an active lifestyle.
