ABSTRACT

The theme of the research is the relevance of the statistical study in basic education to the civic education of the student. The objective is to identify the relevance of the statistical education, from primary school to high school. It’s justified by the shortage observed in the civic education of students and by the contribution the field of statistics may give the student. To investigate this contribution in the current education system, nine scientific papers on the study of statistics were analyzed and exposed cases where the teaching of statistics was incorporated to find out if there have been significant changes in the education of future members of society. From this, the research problem arises: does the study of statistics shows to be relevant in the training of students as individuals to be inserted in the society? The methodology has bibliographic approach, exploratory and descriptive, which means it’s carried out an overview of ideas and information that can help sort the study of statistics, so it can be tapped in order to arouse interest in mathematics and enhance an area that all professional use, statistics, especially when making decisions in various processes, from administrative to productive ones. The theoretical foundation holds its bases in Batanero (2001) which argues on the clarity of the relationship between the development of a country and its degree of producing complete and highly reliable statistics, because this information is vital for decision making in social, economic and politics. This group of ideas and information wants to analyze the importance of developing, with the students, the study of statistics in order to make them more participatory in society. The study of statistics can be used as a lever to arouse the interest of mathematics, moreover, it can create a solid foundation in the formation of the individual as a professional. The results indicate, at first, that the teaching of statistics develops the ability to collect and store specific data. The statistical study shows to be relevant in the construction of knowledge and the teaching of statistics basically depends on the teacher and the teaching staff to provoke interest in students about a critical attitude towards the information they receive constantly, developing their autonomy. Under an interdisciplinary perspective, this study serves as a link between the various axes of knowledge with mathematics and enables citizen development as it develops the ability of critical analysis on different information presented to the subject. The research identified that, however not many scientific papers on the study of statistics compared to the study of other areas were found, it is clear that there is a constant concern with the qualification of teacher and student satisfaction when he understands the statistical function.

INTRODUÇÃO

O tema da pesquisa é a relevância do estudo da estatística na educação básica para a formação cidadã do aluno e será delimitado pela investigação da educação e do ensino da estatística, da presença da estatística no cotidiano, do papel dos envolvido em seu processo de aprendizagem e da exemplificação de atividade que contemplem seu desenvolvimento. O objetivo do trabalho é identificar a relevância do ensino da estatística e justifica-se pela lacuna observada na formação cidadã dos estudantes.

Percebe-se que a estatística pode contribuir na formação cidadã, pois ela é um ramo da Matemática aplicada que surgiu por questões de governabilidade, isto é, por necessidade de gerenciamento do estado. Em muitas situações, a preocupação em registrar dados surgiu com os censos de determinados locais, a quantidade de nascimentos e óbitos, a quantificação de renda e riquezas acumuladas pela população, comércio e indústria formam os primeiros problemas a serem estudados pela estatística. Mais tarde, os ingleses consideravam a estatística como uma ciência política destinada a delinear as peculiaridades de um determinado país. Partindo disso, passou a ser vista como uma ferramenta de caracterização numérica de diversos dados a serem analisados, provenientes da população, e para um futuro dimensionamento da arrecadação e distribuição de impostos. A visão da estatística, como ciência, passou a ser fundamentada apenas a partir do século XVIII, com os registros de um alemão chamado Godofredo Achenwall. Entretanto, nos dias atuais, o significado de estatística apresenta-se de forma mais complexa, não se detendo a simples coleta de dados. Caracteriza-se por ser um conjunto de procedimentos denominados métodos estatísticos, capazes de tratar de dados quantitativos associados a uma série de causas e possíveis soluções. Além disso, os meios de comunicação e as redes sociais nos bombardeiam, constantemente, com notícias e propagandas baseadas em estatísticas. A partir daí verificamos a importância de poder avaliar de maneira correta o que é informado. Contudo, as pessoas sentem-se incapazes de analisar os dados estatísticos a sua volta. Surge assim a necessidade de entender como estes dados podem ser analisados de forma correta.
