On the whole, the assessment was a great, I felt satisfied with my performance which boosted my confidence to carry out this procedure more times. I believe to have meet the criteria efficiently, keeping in mind all the health and safety learned. I was able to find the pulse easily, and subsequently, I was able to count the number of breaths without making the patient alert of this, to not cause any alterations due to anxiety. I kept my communication to the patient stable throughout the process to keep Ronnie aware and not stressed.

Lastly, I believe I did a good job. I kept the patient aware of their reading and notified correctly to the nurse. I continuously made an effort to ensure the patient was feeling comfortable by talking to Ronnie rather than just carrying out the procedure quietly. In reference to Bensing, it reveals that it is important for nurses to communicate at an emotional level so that the patient feels cared for and also helps disclose his concerns which he might otherwise not reveal. (Bensing, 1991).

Overall, this reflection helped me become more confident on my practice as a student nurse and how I can further improve in the future. Not only that, but it also guided me in the importance of keeping the dignity and care of patients. It was a good way to reflect upon ourselves and to bring my skills to a new level of competence. In future similar practice, I would make sure that taking the pulse and communicating the finding to the patient, they would understand the significant values correctly so they are part of the those observations. Most importantly, I will continue to follow the NMC Code for practice to help me carry out my duty as a nurse safely in years to come.
