ABSTRACT

In Brazil, cancer is the second cause of death in the population, many patients with this diagnosis do not evolve for healing. And they require the team of professionals, mainly from nursing not only technical ability to perform physical care, but the ability to emotional care based on ethics and humanization. Objective: To identify the role of nurses in care to cancer patients in palliative care. Was carried out theoretical study from integrative review of scientific literature, existing databases, selected 10 articles, research conducted between January and March 2016. Result: were analyzed according to the following categories, profile of nurses providing care to cancer patients in palliative care; strategies used by nurses in the care of cancer patients in palliative care and nursing contribution in assisting cancer patients in palliative care in the view of the family. Nurses who provided assistance to cancer patients in palliative care had ages ranging between 23-50 years old, mostly women, the training time was found superior to five years, the training of staff through continuing education and permanent in service; dissemination of healthcare humanization policies; reinforced the use of sensitivity, effective communication to identify the real needs of the patient and help you to live these moments with quality, reflect on the practice of nursing in the care planning may show elements that are proper context and also those that result the communication process that is proper to the group in the development of its activities with the cancer patient. Conclusion: it emphasizes the need to value the care relationships and the development of skills and expertise to deal with them. In order that there is an improvement in the quality of services provided by nurses to these patients.

- INTRODUÇÃO

O câncer é como uma patologia que ocorre como consequência da alteração do material genético de uma célula que, ao gerar clones, transforma-se em um conjunto de células atípicas e sem funcionalidade para o organismo. Apesar disso, o câncer possui metabolismo ativo. O termo neoplasia maligna também é empregado para descrever esse processo, que pode surgir em qualquer tecido ou órgão (SMELTZER et al., 2009).

No Brasil, as neoplasias ocupam o segundo lugar nas causas de morte por doença, segundo o Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade (SIM), sendo reconhecidas como um problema de saúde pública. Consoante com a Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) estima-se que no ano de 2030 sejam registrados 27 milhões de novos casos de câncer mundialmente, 75 milhões de pessoas vivendo com a doença anualmente e 17 milhões de mortes (MS, 2011).

Por ser uma doença crônica, e por ser por muitos anos um símbolo da impossibilidade de cura, o câncer, remete ao ser humano o confronto da realidade e finitude da vida. O conceito de morte varia de tempos em tempos, dependendo do contexto sociocultural em que se está inserido. É a partir desse contexto, que se constrói a concepção do termo terminalidade da vida; daí o sentido expressivo quando se informa o prognóstico desfavorável (OLIVEIRA; et al, 2010; SILVA et al, 2009).

A compreensão do câncer pela sociedade, em sua maioria, ainda é de uma doença relacionada à dor, sofrimento e morte. Nesse sentido, cabe ao profissional identificar suas próprias concepções acerca da patologia. Faz-se necessário
